Three Signs It Is Time To Replace Your Boiler

Posted on: 13 January 2016

The last thing you want to wake up to is a cold house. All it really makes you want to do is stay in the bed and remain unproductive. When your boiler quits working, you have two options. You can choose to call a licensed HVAC repairman like Boiler Services, Inc. to come and fix it or you can replace it with a newer model. In general, boilers last around 15 years if properly maintained. As your boiler ages, you have to decide whether it is worth it to fix it or to go ahead and replace it. This can be tough if you do not have a lot of experience with boilers. In an effort to save you both time and money on useless repairs, here are some signs it is time to replace your boiler.

Repeated Repairs

Once you have gotten your boiler repaired, you expect it to work for quite a while until it needs servicing again. Unfortunately, boilers require more service as they age. If you find yourself keeping the boiler repair guy on speed dial because you have to keep calling him, this is a sure sign that it may be in your best interest to replace the boiler. You need to decide if the money you are putting into repairing the boiler is just extending its life rather than fixing the problem. If the boiler is nearing 15 years of age, it is time to go ahead and replace it.

Improper Sizing

The needs of your family are likely to change over time. Just because you start out with a particular size boiler, it doesn't mean it will work for your family forever. If your boiler is too large, it could be putting out too much heat and costing you more money than it should. If the boiler is too small, it will have to work extra hard and it may not be able to heat up your home like you need.

Obsolete Parts

Even when you don't mind repairing your boiler, you may be out of luck when the parts are hard to find. As technology advances, some boilers can become outdated, making it hard for technicians to find the necessary parts needed to fix the boiler. This can cause extra downtime and a very cold house to deal with. Additionally, you may be searching high and low for parts that are hard to find and some may even cost more because they are so scarce.

Got Hail Damager? What You Need to Know About Repairs

We had a major hail storm in our area. I could see the dents and dings on the side of our home, but I had no idea how to go about getting it repaired or what to expect from the process. Luckily, we had a great insurance agent who helped guide us through the process and put us in touch with great contractors. But, I know not everyone is as lucky as we are. As such, I started this website to help people like you who may have hail damage. I hope you will learn what hail damage looks like, what happens if it isn't repaired, who to contact and what to expect during the process of repairing the damage. I am sorry about the damage to your home, but I hope my website gives you information that helps you during this time.
